Digital citizenship is in high demand, and a survival tool for generations to come. Digital citizenship “refers to the responsible use of technology by anyone who uses computers, the Internet, and digital devices to engage with society on any level” (Zook, 2019). This meaning, knowing how the internet works, making sure you are using your devices/internet safely, and articulating the different between the phycial and digital world. As the use of internet is rising, it is becoming more and more important to develt digital citizenship.

Digital literacy is defined as the ability to use digital tools safely and effectively for learning, communicating, collaborating, and producing (Deye, 2017). Digital citizenship is more behavior, and responsibility online whilst digatl literacy has more to do with communication, and the ability to evaluate and create. Additionally, digital literacy is actually one of the nine elements of digital citizenship.

Again, as the use of the digital world increase the importance of learning these skill increases as well. I think children should be taught this from a young age, they are exposed to the digital age much younger than previous generations, and should be taught to utilize it properly and effectively. To effectively teach digital citizenship, educators can incorporate lessons into daily schedules or activities (Anderson, 2018). Adults as well should be taught with proper courses how to better the digital world. Ablog by Avispecto mentioned that frequently illegal part of adults in digital citizenship. According to him, online copyright issues are the easiest for adults to violate (Avispecto, 2014).

As a student, I have experienced continuous amounts of times where imaged from Google would just be copied and pasted into a presentation or something and we don’t credit the authors properly. Also knowing learning credibility is very important for all ages to learn. It is important for all of us to educate ourselves on digital citizenship because knowing it will help better the digital world.
